Prelude

Time and again, my friends and family have asked me to ‘do something’ with my photographs and writings. They have often wanted to read my published features. Not all of them are on social media, so they find it difficult to read them if I post them on Facebook. I have always been reticent about showcasing my photographs publicly. However, early this year, I thought I might as well give in to the requests of my well-wishers. So, I ended up with a new venture to show the photographs a little differently.

While I am more or less active on social media, it has its own set of challenges. I feel that people are slowly losing touch with their real emotions due to social media’s mesmerizing effects. I think expressing one’s true feelings is as important as visiting psychologists. And, if we can try and write a line or two to our dear ones, then it also makes them feel special. Therefore, I designed a line of cards with photographs taken by me, and meaningful captions at the back.

Designing and printing the cards; getting the bags stitched – were the easier parts. Then, what?

I started with jittery steps. I had an exhibition in Brunei with the cards that was well-appreciated. Consequently, I mustered up a little more courage to create a Facebook page with quite a sagacious name – Sravasti’s Words & Images – sounding almost like Aristotle saying, “There is no word without an image”. Now that I live in the lap of the Himalayas, I may just become sage-like and spout inspirational words!

The Istanbul Exhibition at the Turkish Embassy in Brunei and the ICCR Kolkata exhibition followed after much deliberation and then the ball has kept rolling with quite a few people showing interest in the cards and photographs, my FB and Instagram pages. Many have bought the cards and have said they are waiting for more.

Hope the rolling ball gathers some moss, unlike a rolling stone. And, hope everyone will support my efforts towards sustaining a sensitive, green world by buying the cards, stock photographs and the plantable paper pens, apart from following my blogposts. I have also kept a section for guest blogposts in this website. Feel free to send in your writings and images related to:
